"Home schooled the abcs of kid soul"
You know Michael, Jermaine, Tito, Marlon and Jackie, but what about Altyrone Deno Brown, Michael Washington, or Little Murray & the Mantics? Home Schooled, the 16th record in Numero's library of the lost, looks at the unknown side of the early 70s kid soul revolution. Beyond the Osmonds, the Five Stairsteps, and the Brighter Side of Darkness lay hundreds of aspiring children (or parents) bent on becoming the next Michael. Numero has selected seventeen of our favorites. A detailed and photo stuffed booklet breaks down the history of the phenomena, while the disc straddles the line between historical artifact and wild mix tape.

El Blog de Pam Berry

Hello, I am addicted to vintage buttons and my name is:
Pam
London, United Kingdom

Julian Cope, visionary rock musician and musicologist, hip archaeologist and one-time frontman of The Teardrop Explodes, brings you JAPROCKSAMPLER. Until now, the language barrier has made post-war Japanese music an enigma to the West. Julian felt duty-bound to provide the key to that unfairly locked door.
This is the history of Western music's arrival on Japanese shores after World War Two, and the delicious mayhem that ensued. From chromatic instrumental pop covers of The Shadows' songs to the resurrection of Dylan-inspired Rokyoku folk storytelling, nowhere has the continual metamorphosis of rock'n'roll been more fascinating or original than in Japan.
JAPROCKSAMPLER is an exploration of the clash between traditional, conservative Japanese values and the wild rock'n'roll renegades of the 1960s and '70s. It tells the tale of key artists in Japanese post-war culture, from itinerant art-house poets to violent refusenik rock groups with a penchant for plane hijacking, and rounds up the seminal japrock albums.
Julian guarantees that this book will have you rethinking your attitudes to music, art, time - and even life itself
The Jam Unseen

Libro de fotografías dedicado a The Jam. Hay una web dedicada al libro: http://www.thejamunseen.com/
In 1982, their last studio LP, The Gift, went to the top of the album chart and Town Called Malice and Beat
Surrender were No.1 singles. That same year, 21-year old freelance photographer Twink was commissioned
by The Jam to be their official photographer, capturing them not only on
stage, but also their life out of the public eye. A quarter of a century
on, this volume brings together for the first time more than 200 of his
outstanding photographs. "For me and countless others," says Twink, "The Jam stand head and
shoulders above any other three-piece band you care to recall, and most
other bands - past, present and future ... They were the spokespeople for a
generation, social commentators empathising with dole-queue despair and
becoming idols to the country's disillusioned youth." These stunning images capture The Jam's electrifying live performances as well as their quieter moments - backstage, travelling and relaxing. "When
we needed a photographer to come on the road with us - someone who could
`access all areas' and take candid fly-on-the-wall shots - we had no doubt
that he was our man," write Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler in the foreword
to this book.

El nuevo de Irene colgado aquí: http://takethepills.blogspot.com/ IRENE - Long Gone Since Last Summer CD (Labrador (Sweden): LAB104Less than one year after the debut ”Apple bay” the ten piece collective Irene returns with a new, wonderful album. ”Long gone since last summer” combines big arrangements, crystal clear production and unsurpassed sing along-qualities in an irresistibly elegant manner. The slightly unpolished, 60’s influenced sound found on the debut has cleared up. This time Irene aimed at making an album that will be impossible to place in time when listened to in the year 2025, and still sounds great. A big sound demands a big band. Since last year Irene has expanded to a ten piece collective. ”Long Gone Since Last Summer” is written, arranged and produced by Irene’s own Tobias Isaksson, aka Bobby, and recorded by Ulf Wederbrand at Studio Folkhemmet.
Kevin Rowland Presents Motown Made to Measure
This is not an album of Kevin Rowland music but a selection of his favourite Motown recordings and, as such, is one of the most wonderful, life affirming hours you could possibly spend listening to music. There are no undiscovered gems here which in a way is slightly disappointing, but what is here are wall to wall classics and a fascinating glimpse into Rowland's record collection. - 1.

"...Hatcham Social are the next lovely provisional state of the Postcard era..." - Tim Burgess
"...think Josef K meets Aztec Camera and you are half way there..." - Alan Mcgee

Laisse Tomber Les Filles" is a French song composed by Serge Gainsbourg and performed by France Gall in 1964. April March recorded two covers of the song in 1995: one with the original French lyrics, and another, "Chick Habit," with English lyrics written by March. The song is used for the end texts in the movie Death Proff by Quentin Tarantino

A veces me provocan impulsos violentos.
Claro que Wire no son lo mío, exceptuando el “Outdoor Miner” (Memorable estribillo el de “He lies on his side, is he trying to hide? In fact it's the earth, which he's known since birth”). The music was written by Colin after Graham had given him lyrics about the intense domestic problem facing the serpentine miner, an insect which lives in a leaf and eats its chlorophyll. Graham's lyrics are anxious about the possibility of the roof falling in.”

El marketing del boca a boca

Número 1 en el “Northern Soul top 500” de Kev Roberts; “the rarest of the rare northern soul single”; “The northern soul most expensive record”...
Frank Wilson is an african american former songwriter and record producer for Motown. He joined the company in 1965. Wilson also tried his hand at being a recording artist himself, recording the single “Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)" for release on the Motown subsidiary label 'Soul.' Supposedly 250 demo 45s were pressed, but by that time Frank Wilson decided he would rather focus on producing and had the demos trashed. Somehow at least two known copies survived, one of which fetched £15,000 (aprox. $28,000.00). Because of the scarcity of the original single and the high quality of the music (it was one of the most popular records in the Northern soul movement), it has been championed as one of the rarest and most valuable records in history.

The School nuevo grupo Elefant
THE BOY LEAST LIKELY TO.

El tracklisting es el siguiente: jerry butler · moon river :: katy mofatt · fools fall in love :: lee hazlewood & anne margret · dark end of the street :: jane birkin & françoise hardy · comment lui dire adieu :: etienne daho & dani · comme un boomerang :: april march · mon ange gardien :: dean & britta · I deserve it :: robert forster · echo beach :: sonny and cher · leave me be :: lambchop · backstreet girl :: morrissey · moon river.
Marc Almond - Happy heart

There's a certain sound always follows me around
When you're close to me you will hear it
It's the sound that lovers hear when they discover
There could be no other for their love
Music by Hans Last and Words by Jackie Rae
Andy Williams (peak Billboard position # 22 in 1969)
Tema también interpretado por Petula Clark, Nick Decaro y Anita Kerr
Marc Almond la interpreta de manera maravillosa en su nuevo lp, “Stardom road” (que también cuenta con colaboraciones de lujo, entre ellas la de Sarah Cracknell, con la que canta el "I Close My Eyes and Coun to Ten" de Dusty)

THE GO! TEAM -
"This is the second single from the forthcoming second album ’proof of youth’. ’doing it right’ is a mammoth pop single that starts and steals from ’dancing in the street’ - the 1964 song first recorded by martha and the vandellas. then it heads into cheerleader chants, joyous hooks and 70s style brass. at every turn there is something new and exciting. this perfect pop nugget could have easily been a song written for sesame street. the cd single comes backed by exclusive b-side ’milk crisis.

AYERS, KEVIN
the unfairground
Release Date: 10/09/2007
the pioneer of the british psychedelic scene returns with his first studio album in 15 years accompanied by the artists he inspred like teenage fanclub, ladybug transistor, candie payne and euros childs. also featured is long time musician and close friend hugh hopper from his soft machine days. ayers ambles through these gently beguiling songs like an old rogue who has fallen into the company of some indulgent new friends. robert wyatt guests as the wyattron, a heavily treated harmony on 'cold shoulder' that recalls eno's metamorphosis into the enotron on wyatt's own records. phil manzanera, another of wyatt's crew, adds some faintly threatening freak-out in the background of 'brainstorm'. best of all, the elusive bridget st john duets on 'baby come home', a romantic gambol with the rich brass band trim that's a hallmark of this whole, immensely pleasant record.

There is one page about the Smiths in the october edition of Mojo.
"WHAT GOES ON !-(page 14.)
THEY CAN SMILE ABOUT IT NOW.
Photo book captures The Smiths in their first flush. Plus, is the band's long awaited box set finally ready?
However long a major band lasts, there is something ineffably alluring about their first photographs. Paul Slattery was on hand for The Smiths'infancy and his new book:The Smiths:The Early Years, presents edited but copious highlights. It covers 1983 and 1984, years when Slattery photographed the group on eight separate occasions. There are handsome live shots in abundance from Glastonbury, Paris and London-Morrissey's quiff, you notice, has yet to come to full glory at the May 1983 show at the University of London-and numerous posed group shots, including this cheery image of Morrissey and Johnny Marr at the Manchester Central station, also from May 1983.An extended sequence of The Smiths backstage at The University of East Anglia in February 1984, meanwhile, shows uncommon scenes of the band pre and post-gig.
Also stirring up the band's meteoric but brief lifetime are indications that a 4-CD box set of rarities and remastered albums may at least be appearing. Rumoured since 2001, and reputedly held up by in-band disagreement, the box set has now been approved by Morrissey and Marr.
"There isn't really that much unreleased music", Marr told Mojo, "but there's good versions of songs, of golden oldies, stripped down original takes before lots of overdubs went on-just the three of us putting down the take and the vocal and that's it.Those things sound really, really good. And there's a lot of great live stuff' cos we were a phenomenal live band".
A source from Warner said that, contrary to popular belief, the label is keen to see the remastered albums available again and that plans also include releasing 2-CD editions of The Smiths' albums and all of their singles on vinyl, in 7- and 12-inch formats."
The Smiths: The Early Years by Paul Slattery is published by Omnibus at £19.95.

Control

"This is Tomorrow" - Paul Kelly & St Etienne
The film features interviews with people who have made major contributions to the building and its architecture, including designer Robin Day, original architects Trevor Dannatt and Jim Cadbury-Brown, Southbank Centre's current artistic director Jude Kelly, artist Jeremy Deller and author Alain De Botton as well as builders, manufacturers, local residents and Southbank Centre staff. Plus Brief City (UK 1952. Dir Jacques Brunius & Maurice Harvey. 19min): How the Festival of Britain transformed the South Bank into a post-war wonderland.
The Pearlfishers - Up with the Larks

“A sun-kissed trip to the most baroque and extravagant sounds of the Sixties” (UNCUT)
They are back back back with Up With The Larks (MA 69), their sixth album for Marina Records. Joyous title track, “Up With The Larks” kickstarts the day, “shattered and blue in splinters and sparks”, rich with trademark Pearlfishers lush vocal harmonies, multi-layered guitar texture, the wild jangle of a battered upright piano and exquisite melodic twists and turns. Teenage Fanclub’s Norman Blake co-produced four of the album’s cuts, starting with “The Bluebells” – not a tribute to once famous Scottish popsters but a beautiful, string-laden rumination on the turning of seasons. One act that does indeed receive a full-blooded name-check are Womack And Womack in a song titled, aptly enough, “Womack And Womack” which recalls Scott’s early days running with the hawks of the major music industry (“…left the school and joined a band, like other lads across the land, gladly kissed the corporate hand…”). Morning breaks again in “Ring The Bells For A Day”, complete with the glittering Big Star chime of massed Fender Stratocaster, an exultation to “cast the night away” and a line written in tribute to one of Scott’s enduring heroes, Brian Wilson: “Wherever you lie down, wherever you wake up, the world follows”.The Pearlfishers 2006 Japanese tour with BMX Bandits is thrillingly recounted in “The Umbrellas Of Shibuya”, a song which takes its reference point from Michel Legrand’s classic movie opera “The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg” but locates itself in a Tokyo rainstorm – with neon puddles, painted in Morricone banjos, Sakamoto synth blooms, Nilsson mouth music and, most tellingly, Scott’s truly unique sense of melody and structure. Another highlight is the Randy Newman-esque “With You On My Mind” which sounds like a lost Tin Pan Alley classic arranged by Van Dyke Parks. “London’s In Love” could be the theme song to an as-yet-to-be-made romantic comedy blockbuster starring the new Cary Grant, set in the “blue black air” of Britain’s capital, full of promise and heartbreak. The Pearlfishers, firmly rooted in the classic tradition of three minute cinematics as pioneered by Webb, McCartney and, recently Rufus Wainwright, reach a great finale with the album’s closing songs: “Blue Riders On The Range”, a sparkling widescreen epic (sounding like Marvin & Diana doing “RAM”) and the gorgeous, pastoral “I Just See The Rainbow” which ends the album on an optimistic note. “And call me cock-eyed if you will, but I don’t see that dark hill, I just see the rainbow…”.
