El directo de The Go Betweens
He podido escuchar el cd (no he visto el DVD) audio de That Striped Sunlight Sound y suena realmente bien.

Love Dance combines the warm sound of jangly guitars with the sound of drum machines and keyboards to make melodic, clean pop music. The songs have the polyphonic quality that pop music can have at its best; a kind of melancholy that sounds uplifting, the perfect combination between happiness and sadness. Love Dance is the sound of four boys from Bergen, and is inspired by the things they encounter every day. The streets, the buildings, the sea, and the relationships that occur in-between these things. The happiness and the decay. It's both social realism and escapism.
The Servants reeditados

Feburary sees the Cherry Red label release an album called ’Reserved’ by The Servants (CDMRED 297). The Servants were formed in London in 1985 and were based around the carefully crafted guitar work of David Westlake. Phil King who went onto play with Felt and Biff Bang Pow, was also in the band. Their first two singles, ’She’s Always Hiding’ and ’The Sun, A Small Star,’ both on The Head label, attracted good press interest and both made the independent singles chart. Westlake then went on to a solo deal with Creation Records while The Servants reformed around future Auteurs and Black Box Recorder man, Luke Haines.
Also involved in the new line up was Hugh Whitaker who had previously been with the Housemartins. Luke Haines wrote the sleeve notes for this release. With sleevenotes from Luke Haines this is a long overdue retrospective.

- RED CARPET "the noise of red carpet" (quince records) COMING 2/27/2006
Second album by the unsung heroes of Finnish indie pop, now available in the US! Sharing two members with jangle and shuffle meisters Ultrasport, Red Carpet's new album is further testimony to the vitality of the (criminally overlooked) pop scene currently bubbling under in Finland. These 12 gorgeous, colorful songs are the perfect new discovery for fans of everything from Nada Surf to Buffalo Springfield! "What do you get when you cross the songwriting of Simon & Garfunkel with the Red House Painters and have Teenage Fanclub play the results? Red Carpet!" -recordoffice.net. "Finland's #1 harmony pop group" -Rumba Music Magazine (Finland)
- SCARBORO AQUARIUM CLUB "Black swan days" (Becalmed)
COMING 2/27/2006
Black Swan Days is the follow-up to Scarboro Aquarium Club’s acclaimed debut Poisoned. Like its predecessor, this new album is mainly the work of Corey W Schmidt with help from a few collaborators. Corey’s passion for pop music is again present in 12 songs that draw equally from the folk songwriting of the 60s and 80s tecno-pop, with references to such different artists as Scott Walker (‘Blind Like The Sun’), Roxy Music (‘All Her Careful Plans’), Saint Etienne (‘Before The Morning Light’) and the exotic legacy of El Records (‘The Queen Of The Beach’). But more than anything, “Black Swan Days” is a contemporary record which follows a tradition of devoted music artisans that goes from Brian Wilson through Todd Rundgren to Stephin Merrit of the Magnetic Fields, artists who understand the pop craft as predominantly an individual process with the aim to become universal

- EVIE SANDS "Estates of mind" (rev ola)
COMING 3/20/2006
5013929445321. Evie Sands....one of the most astonishing female vocalists in the world, the favourite singer of Dusty Springfield among many others....yes, we've been through all this before, but....well...it needs to be said!.... After a series of critically acclaimed disappointments in the 1960s, Evie at last got her due with the sublime (and monster hit!) 1969 single and album "Any Way That You Want Me" on A&M (also on RevOla!).....a couple of years later, Evie was to team with Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter, erstwhile hitmakers at Dunhill Records....masterminds of the label's dazzling second run, going from re-inventing The Grass Roots as pop/soul hitmakers, to the personal triumph of relaunching the hit career of The Four Tops....On a roll, they were able to launch Haven Records, to which their first signing was Evie....for this superb album, written and produced by the duo, which was a huge success, both artistic and commercial for Evie, and spawned the hit singles "You Brought The Woman Out Of Me" and "I Love Makin' Love To You".....along with a raft of cover versions by Barbra Streisand, Gladys Knight, Dusty Springfield, Dobie Gray ("You Can Do It" Billboard Top 20, R&B Chart), Dionne Warwick, Frankie Valli, Cher and Greg Allman, The Manhattans, Phyllis Hyman, Jose Feliciano, Linda Clifford, June Pointer, Weather Girls, Liona Boyd, The Ebonys, Karen Carpenter, Tom Jones, Betty Everett, and many others.....a songwriting coup for Dennis and Brian, and for Evie herself.... So here we are, with the original album, as well as no less than 5 unreleased bonus tracks of stunning quality....another triumph for Evie....and for Lambert & Potter....and for RevOla!

Featuring a stellar cast of prestigious international guests, the 2006 Antena trip takes you from Paris to Tokyo, Goa to Washington CD. Stand-out tracks include energetic stepper Le Spinner (already familiar from the Samsonite ad campaign), future lounge classic Toujours du Soleil and the electro-groovy Love is to Blame, as well as a magical version of the laid-back America classic Horse With No Name. “Essential – 2005’s most charming musical surprise” (Mojo, December 2005).

For the recording of Talking Backwards, the Tender Trap trio have been joined by Claudia Gonson (Magnetic Fields et al) on drums. After we’d finished talking, Amelia sent me MP3s of a couple of tracks from the album: "Six Billion People" and "Inuit Beauty Queen". Based on these songs and the new tracks on Language Lessons, it’s clear that Tender Trap have indeed move back towards their Heavenly blueprint while still retaining their latter day propensity for "fiddling around with electronics". This can only be a good thing.

Sibylle Baier- "Colour Green"
Format: CD
Catalog #: OTR022
Release Date: Feb. 7, 2006
Distributed by Secretly Canadian
"Colour Green" was recorded in Germany in the 1970-1973.
In a particularly dark and moody period of her young life, Claudine, a friend of Sibylle’s, dragged her out from under the bed and took her on a road trip to Strasbourg, ending up across the Alps in Genoa.
Upon the return from this trip Sibylle felt her sprits renewed and she set out to write the song "Remember the Day", grateful for being alive. It was the first song she ever wrote. Her music is simply amazing in its intimacy and closeness. Recorded in the late 70’s in her home on a reel to reel recording device, the songs on "Colour Green" are intimate portraits of life’s sad and fragile beauty. It is a gem of an album that will blow your mind. Sibylle is a star who chose to shine for her friends and family instead of the whole world.
Orange Twin Records is a record label and web site run by members of Elf Power which is raising funds for land preservation and sustainable development.

Essex Green

new record, Cannibal Sea
The Essex Green is a band based in Brooklyn NY. For their new album, Cannibal Sea, the band’s three principal songwriters - Chris Ziter, Sasha Bell and Jeff Baron - have assembled a collection of songs that speak to themes of travel, exploration, wanderlust and the desire for quiet niches amid the pressures of big city living. Like the protagonists in the opening lines of Don’t Know Why (You Stay) - “Stepping along the hum of the sidewalk / A marionette, a slave / Your legs are wood and tied to the city / Who has final say?” - the characters from the songs on Cannibal Sea display a yearning to break free of the boundaries and constrictions of city life. To escape the darkness and fatigue, to move on to more lighthearted settings surrounded by water, replete with the spray of the sea, the gentle lift and sway of a boat on the waves.
Cannibal Sea is the third full-length release from The Essex Green, who, though based in Brooklyn, have roots in more pastoral climes such as Vermont and Ohio. Ziter, Bell and Baron share vocal duties across the album and, with the help of some exceptionally talented friends and collaborators, unfurl a diverse range of styles and influences.
Listening to Cannibal Sea is like leafing through a songbook of classic pop. These 12 songs blend the old with the new, incorporating the country rock mood of The Byrds, the Greenwich Village balladry of Fred Neil and the acoustic pop harmonizing of the Mamas and The Papas. Add a little of the pure pop perfection of The Monkees to traces of contemporary artists such as The Shins, The Hidden Cameras and Jens Lekman and you have The Essex Green’s recipe for timeless pop that is classic without being retro. Recorded over the course of a year in several locations in Brooklyn and Ohio, and points in between, Cannibal Sea is The Essex Green’s most cohesive and accomplished album to date.

It’s the first Mojave 3 long-player recorded entirely in Halstead’s own studio, located in Cornwall, England, and brace yourself: in the man’s own words, it’s "poppier".
"These songs are quite immediate," Halstead mused. "It was a fun process, doing things that are a bit faster. Hopefully it won’t put off any Mojave fans."
- the band enlisted one Victor Van Vugt to mix Puzzles Like You. Triple V has produced records by Nick Cave, Beth Orton, and Luna, and mixed PJ Harvey’s Mercury Prize-winning Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea.
- mojave3online.com, where Halstead has posted an unmixed version of "Big Star Baby". The breezy number features Halstead crooning choice lyrics like, "Everyone I’ve ever loved / Has been some kind of fuck-up." Totally heartfelt, we kid you not.
- a Slowdive reunion? Unlikely, he said. While not against the idea, Halstead claimed he has a full platter of present interests and wonders if Slowdive are relevant enough to even warrant a reunion. Besides, "I think we sold our pedals, anyway." For shame!
