Graham Coxon a lo Pete Shelley
Parece que el ex Blur quiere ser un Buzzcocks.
Su nuevo single -"Standing on my own again"- no es "What do i get" pero casi. El resto de su nuevo album "Love Travels at the Illegal Speeds" es bastante similar a su primero en solitario: cuando se pone guitarrero mezcla a The Fall con Dinosaur Jr y cuando se pone tierno hace unas cuantas baladas un tanto insulsas. Por lo menos el single es pasable.

el Vitoria tal como es
Como estaba anunciado, el nuevo rock de lux lleva una entrevista al Vitoria, aunque más que una entrevista es una de esas charlas de mostrador de Amsterdam que terminan convirtiéndose en un monólogo en el que da rienda suelta a su fobias. En este caso la víctima es la pobre de Dusty Springfield que, no se sabe muy bien porque, termina siendo vejada. De paso, a Nancy Sinatra también le da un buen repaso.
Aquí dejo las habituales perlas de nuestro siempre ofuscado protagonista:
DUSTY
"Dusty in Memphis" es una obra maestra, pero no estoy seguro de que fuera por ella. Tenía una gran voz y poco más. Allí había un gran grupo de gente colaborando. Hay grandes discos que no son mérito de la gente que los firma. Por ejemplo, Nancy Sinatra. Tiene álbumes arrolladores, pero no por ella. Allí estaba Lee Hazlewood y Hal Blaine. Ella es una mujer de intelectualidad dudosa y de cuestionable posición política. En cuanto a Dusty, más que una gran artista fue un icono por cosas como presentar "Ready Go Steady. Más cortita y más sosa no se podía ser..."

"Goldmine Trash" de Felt
Cherry Red sigue exprimiendo el legado de Felt, aunque las reediciones son cada vez más ridículas. Esta vez le toca el turno a esta recopilación editada originalmente en 1987. La novedad es que incluye dos maquetas de "Dismantled King Is Off The Throne" y "Sunlight Bathed The Golden Glow" y una portada nueva...
Otra noticia más interesante es que Paul Kelly (East Village, manager de St Etienne y ahora director de cortos) está preparando un documental sobre Lawrence

La nueva temporada que están emitiendo en canal + es realmente brillante. Después de los titubeos que no parecían tener fin sobre el enamoramiento/casamiento de Niles y Daphne, los guionistas se centran otra vez en la trama y han vuelto a tomar el pulso. un 10 para la temporada 10.
Todo lo contrario que Joey, que parece que la cuatro va a emitir en abierto. Yo no puedo con ella; verdaderamente insufrible y sin ninguna gracia las aventuras del ex de Friends.
La antología de Kim Weston
Me entero por spectropop que se ha publicado un doble cd de Kim Weston con 48 canciones (¡34 inéditas!). Yo conocía a Kim Weston por ser la voz que acompañaba a Marvin Gaye en la maravillosa "It Takes Two" pero poco más. Su etiqueta de segundona en la Motown le perjudicaba y este cd demuestra lo contrario. Desde luego su voz era un torbellino y cuando le daban la canción adecuada ("I´m still loving you" o "Take Me in Your Arms") el resultado es espectacular.

Por cierto, también chirriante es la portada del Ruta 66. La vi ayer en el kiosco. Sale Paul Collins en portada, pero la foto no es precisamente una actual. Debe ser porque el señor Collins actualmente tampoco tiene una pinta muy rock´n´roll... El día 12-01-2006, Paul Collins sale en los conciertos de radio 3 en la 2.

Kilburn Towers de los Bee Gees
Esta canción la conocí gracias al single que Another Sunny Day editaron en Caff Records, el sello indie fantasma de Bob Stanley de St. Etienne. Harvey Williams versioneó por una cara a OMD y en la otra esta maravilla de la etapa Softpop de los australianos (por cierto, ambas con sonido inaudible. El single era realmente flojo). La curiosidad me llevó a buscar la original y puedo afirmar que es una de las canciones más hermosas que he oído. Pertenece a "Idea", su lp de 1968. Una joya08/01/2006

El Barbican es probablemente el lugar donde más cosas se están cociendo en Londres. Vuelven los BMX Bandits (y celebran sus 20 años)
Nuevo lp, nueva formación (sin Nice Man y con David Scott Pearlfishers - y una chica) y celebrando su 20 aniversario.
BMX Bandits have a brand new album out on February 3rd 2006 on P Vine Records in Japan called My Chain. The album will be released a month or two later on Rev-ola for Europe. My Chain is the 14th album release by BMX Bandits and me... and this year marks the 20th anniversary of our first release, the single E102 on 53rd & 3rd records (spotted E102 cover in February's Uncut magazine). 2006 feels like a special year for BMX Bandits. Some of us will BMXers will we be visiting Japan in February for a series of semi-acoustic shows (see below) If you come see us in Japan please come up and say "hello" or "konichiwa"...it would be swell to meet you.
In Summer we completed the NEW BMX album MY CHAIN. It was a difficult album to make but I'm really proud of it and a lot of friends have told me it is the best thing I've done, I think so too. Next Francis became an ex-BMX Bandit (which was a kind of scarey decision because he's so good at putting stuff together musically and a great writer but I think it was the right time for both of us to go explore our separate things). Then David Scott became an official BMX Bandit, after years of contributing to BMX recordings. Rachel MacKenzie also joined BMX Bandits, the first lady Bandit ever. It is really exciting for me having a new voice and personality to write for ...and Rachel sings so pretty, so from the heart and she makes me laugh a lot... Laughing is good medicine!!

El disco será un homenaje a Burt Bacharach y consistirá en versiones del famoso compositor. Se titulará "Me & Bacharach" y se editará en verano en Japón y Corea a través de Neon Tetra. En 'End of the century', los Ramones hablan sin tapujos sobre cómo dieron origen al punk en 1974 y cómo fueron sistemáticamente repudiados en su país a la vez que fueron venerados en el resto del mundo.
Con una duración total superior a las 2 horas, el DVD incluye el documental cinematográfico completo, cerca de 40 segmentos musicales filmados en directo, además de imágenes de los artistas que ayudaron al nacimiento del Punk, como Iggy Pop (Stooges), New York Dolls y Alice Cooper, entre otros.

Extraña reedición de The Monochrome Set
Parece que ¡en Bolivia! han reeditado el "Lost Weekend" de The Monochrome Set. (Ver http://www.coolcloseout.ph/newarrival.htm) con portada nueva y temas extras.

Reediciones de Talking Heads y el dual disc

Si, yo tampoco tenía ni idea de que es eso del dual disc, asi que me puse a investigar y:
De un lado, CD. Del otro, un DVD. Así es el novedoso y ondero Dual Disc, una formato que comienza a ser usado con gran popularidad por la industria discográfica.
Ojo, que los expertos dicen que, aparentemente, es más una jugada de marketing para vender mejor los discos que un gran avance tecnológico. En el Dual Disc, el disco es aprovechado en ambos lados, como los antiguos vinilos o en los casetes. De un lado trae las canciones como un disco normal, y del otro viene un DVD con fotos, videoclips, entrevistas y material extra.

Tragadiscos
El sello indie Tragadiscos prepara su segunda referencia. Un nuevo single de vinilo compartido por The Acid House Kings en el que versionean a Loveninjas y a su vez éstos hacen lo mismo con AHK. En al otra cara Sambassadeur versionean a The Bats ("Claudine") y Math and Physics Club aportan un tema inédito.Irene
Carlos -todavía convaleciente pero felizmente recuperado- informa que en la web de Labrador te puedes bajar una canción -la cara A del single- del nuevo fichaje del sello sueco, una banda llamada Irene.

Irene write songs that sounds almost like clichés of pop songs. Songs about love and heartache, girl group-style rythm section, handclap, Beach Boys, soul, brass and songs that are evergreens from day one. The best new band of 2006 is already here!
Irene grew into a full scale band quite spontaneously in 2005. The members are all friends from the local pub in Göteborg, Sweden. Some songs that Tobias Isaksson (aka Bobby) had written just couldn’t wait to be performed live. The dudes that did the first show had so much fun that they wanted to stick around. By the autumn of 2005 Irene was an octet with semi-permanent members. Shortly after that the record label Labrador signed the band.
Irene likes to record as much as possible live, in one take, up to six people letting it out in one room. Only the final touch (vocals, trumpets and handclaps etc) is added afterwards. The result is a vivid sound marked by the 60’s, Motown soul, girl-groups, American west coast- and contemporary pop. The members of Irene are beach-crooners, punks and next-door nice-guys. All in one.

mark vidler aka go home productions does it again. this was originally an illegal bootleg mix melding blondie’s 1981 hit ’rapture’ with the doors’s 1971 chillout blues anthem ’riders on the storm’. it is now an official single from the latest blondie greatest hits album. all vidler does on ’rapture riders’ is hook the backing track of blondie’s disco nugget up to a tougher backbeat, and then replace debbie harry’s ode to the dance with jim morrison’s dark road movie testimony. the result is strangely sexy dance-pop deluxe. the flip is a rare special 10 minute disco mix of ’rapture’. very limited 12" copies.

Domino Records recently announced that they will release the fruit of Treacy’s foreshadowing, entitled My Dark Places, on February 27 in the UK and March 7 in North America. It will be the first record of new Television Personalities material in eleven long years. Fixin’ for a taster? Domino drops the first single on February 6, the oh-so-cheekily-entitled "All The Young Children On Smack, All The Young Children On Crack". Featuring a cover of the Who’s "All Love Is Good Love" on the b-side, the song was inspired in part by Pete Doherty. We jest not. My Dark Places was recorded with Simon Trought at London’s Soup Studio. A press release proclaims the record is "as sad as it is uplifting, as gentile as it is noisy", and says that Treacy penned the entire album while serving his prison boat sentence.

It`s all remastered, too, so it sounds fab. Some short liner notes, not enough, but it`s a very, very nice job and long over due

Stereolab regresan
como ya hicieran el año pasado vuelven a sacar tres singles de vinilo de golpe.
Estos tres singles más los tres del año pasado, los recopilan en un cd titulado "Fab Four Suture"
Finally, Stereolab are back with a brand new album! The album is to contain 12 tracks, 6 previously released on three limited 7" singles last September, and 6 to be released on three new 7" singles released on the same day as the album (details below).
And if that's not enough vinyl for you, there will also be a limited double 10" edition of the album.

A 5th anniversary of the break-up can’t go without a bang... As you can see below, most of Pizzicato Five’s Columbia catalog is being re-released on the new columbia*readymade label.
Pay particular attention to the two new greatest hits albums "Pizzicato Five no meikyokushū" and "Best" (listed at the top), respectively selected by Moodsville’s Hirabayashi Shinichi and Konishi Yasuharu.
The re-releases will include a combined release of the first 3 Columbia EPs, "London-Paris-Tokyo + This Year’s Model + Readymade Recordings", totalling 18 previous releases available once again. The track lists are same as originally, but the artwork is said to have been redone.
A bit puzzling is the catalog number hole between "meikyokushū" (COCP-50906) and "Best" (COCP-50918)... Could there be 11 more releases on the way?
