se trata de un cd que incluye -entre otros- sus dos primeros eps, sin duda lo mejor que hicieron. La foto corresponde a su primer single, la melancólica "She´s always hiding"

Feburary sees the Cherry Red label release an album called ’Reserved’ by The Servants (CDMRED 297). The Servants were formed in London in 1985 and were based around the carefully crafted guitar work of David Westlake. Phil King who went onto play with Felt and Biff Bang Pow, was also in the band. Their first two singles, ’She’s Always Hiding’ and ’The Sun, A Small Star,’ both on The Head label, attracted good press interest and both made the independent singles chart. Westlake then went on to a solo deal with Creation Records while The Servants reformed around future Auteurs and Black Box Recorder man, Luke Haines.

Also involved in the new line up was Hugh Whitaker who had previously been with the Housemartins. Luke Haines wrote the sleeve notes for this release. With sleevenotes from Luke Haines this is a long overdue retrospective.

No son los Another Sunny Day o Field Mice del 89, pero casi. Son noruegos y favoritos de Richard Preece (Lovejoy, Snowdrops) y Jimmy Tassos (Matinee Records) y hasta ahora sólo tienen un single en Marsh Marigold. En su web http://www.lovedancepop.com/index.html te puedes descargar tres canciones, una de su ep de debut, una demo y un avance de lo que será su primer lp, ésta -it sometimes brings me down" recien colgada.

Love Dance combines the warm sound of jangly guitars with the sound of drum machines and keyboards to make melodic, clean pop music. The songs have the polyphonic quality that pop music can have at its best; a kind of melancholy that sounds uplifting, the perfect combination between happiness and sadness. Love Dance is the sound of four boys from Bergen, and is inspired by the things they encounter every day. The streets, the buildings, the sea, and the relationships that occur in-between these things. The happiness and the decay. It's both social realism and escapism.

El directo de The Go Betweens

He podido escuchar el cd (no he visto el DVD) audio de That Striped Sunlight Sound y suena realmente bien. Es más yo diría que incluso las canciones de "Oceans Apart" suenan mucho mejor que las originales, aunque -bueno- tampoco es muy difícil esto pues por alguna extraña razón "Oceans Apart" suena bastante mal.

La rareza es "Black Mule" una cara B que grabó Grant McLennan en solitario en el 12" de "When Word gets around" y que aquí suena muy bien

El nuevo de Morrissey

"Ringleader Of The Tormentors" se editará el 3 de Abril en Attack/Sanctuary Records y será prededido por el single, "You Have Killed Me," el 27 de Marzo

El disco saldrá en una edición standard y también en una edición especial que incluirá un DVD con el videoclip del single

El nuevo lp se ha grabado en Roma, con producción de Tony Visconti y Ennio Morricone aporta arreglos de cuerda. 

La cultura italiana es la nueva fascinación de Morrissey, que pasó largos meses en Roma mientras elaboraba las canciones de su noveno trabajo. La única aberración de la ciudad de Roma, explica, “es la cantidad de mujeres que llevan pieles de animales asesinados”.

En una carta al semanario británico New Musical Express, el cantante asegura: “Las canciones me colocan al borde del optimismo, aunque confío en alejarme de allí cuando lleguen las críticas. A mí no me resulta natural el dejarme querer por el público. Si viviéramos en 1773, seguramente ya me habrían colgado y quemado.”

La discografía al completo además de dos recopilaciones: una seleccionada por el gurú japonés del easy listening (el dueño de la tienda moodsville) y un best of con canciones elegidas por Konishi Yasuharu

A 5th anniversary of the break-up can’t go without a bang... As you can see below, most of Pizzicato Five’s Columbia catalog is being re-released on the new columbia*readymade label.

Pay particular attention to the two new greatest hits albums "Pizzicato Five no meikyokushū" and "Best" (listed at the top), respectively selected by Moodsville’s Hirabayashi Shinichi and Konishi Yasuharu.

The re-releases will include a combined release of the first 3 Columbia EPs, "London-Paris-Tokyo + This Year’s Model + Readymade Recordings", totalling 18 previous releases available once again. The track lists are same as originally, but the artwork is said to have been redone.
A bit puzzling is the catalog number hole between "meikyokushū" (COCP-50906) and "Best" (COCP-50918)... Could there be 11 more releases on the way?

the bonus trax are modestly revelatory for fans, especially the hyper-kinetic version of "Looking For The Magic" a different version of which was on "Twilley Don`t Mind" and a Bill Pitcock IV song "How About You". It`s all remastered, too, so it sounds fab. Some short liner notes, not enough, but it`s a very, very nice job and long over due

Curioso que después de 11 años sin editar material nuevo, vuelven con más atención mediática que nunca. El disco les ha salido un tanto oscuro, pero es que Dan Tracey lo compuso mientras estaba en la cárcel. De todas maneras hay algún tema pop como They’ll Have to Catch Up First 

 

Domino Records recently announced that they will release the fruit of Treacy’s foreshadowing, entitled My Dark Places, on February 27 in the UK and March 7 in North America. It will be the first record of new Television Personalities material in eleven long years. Fixin’ for a taster? Domino drops the first single on February 6, the oh-so-cheekily-entitled "All The Young Children On Smack, All The Young Children On Crack". Featuring a cover of the Who’s "All Love Is Good Love" on the b-side, the song was inspired in part by Pete Doherty. We jest not. My Dark Places was recorded with Simon Trought at London’s Soup Studio. A press release proclaims the record is "as sad as it is uplifting, as gentile as it is noisy", and says that Treacy penned the entire album while serving his prison boat sentence.

mark vidler aka go home productions does it again. this was originally an illegal bootleg mix melding blondie’s 1981 hit ’rapture’ with the doors’s 1971 chillout blues anthem ’riders on the storm’. it is now an official single from the latest blondie greatest hits album. all vidler does on ’rapture riders’ is hook the backing track of blondie’s disco nugget up to a tougher backbeat, and then replace debbie harry’s ode to the dance with jim morrison’s dark road movie testimony. the result is strangely sexy dance-pop deluxe. the flip is a rare special 10 minute disco mix of ’rapture’. very limited 12" copies.
