"Las islas de Robinson" y The Flashcubes

Ayer estuve escuchando el programa powerpopero de las “Las Islas de Robinson” en su debut en Radio 3 con nuevo horario y no estuvo mal. De hecho gracias a él descubrí a unos tales The Flashcubes (con una bonita canción titulada “Christi Girl”), que al parecer fueron un grupo neoyorkino de finales de los 70 de muy breve trayectoria. El programa se sustenta en clásicos que van desde Yo La Tengo o The Pernice Brothers hasta Graham Parker o John Hiatt, pasando por cosas rockeras en exceso (¡Thin Lizzy!, ¡Cream!) aunque también de vez en cuando pone algunas novedades. En fin, que salvo alguna excepción, se puede escuchar y en alguna ocasión, sorprender.

Desde este mes de agosto se puede comprar en las tiendas más exquisitas de todo el mundo uno de los modelos más exclusivos de Y3, el que bajo el nombre FAC51-Y3 sirve para conmemorar el 25ª aniversario del club Hacienda y la apertura de la primera tienda de la marca en el Reino Unido, precisamente en Manchester. Este par de zapatillas, de las cuáles sólo se han puesto a la venta 250 pares en todo el mundo se venden a un precio de 600 euros. El diseño es cosa de Peter Saville. La galería Urbis, en Manchester, acoge hasta el próximo mes de febrero una exposición que da buena cuenta de la historia del mítico club.

Cambios en Radio 3

Desgraciadamente, no cambia el horario de Flor de Pasión. Eso si, Disco Grande es el gran beneficiado pues se queda con el horario del Ordovás y el Manrique se queda con el horario de Jose María Rey. Para los interesados en el power pop y el sonido de guitarras, "Islas de Robinson" se emitirá  Sábados y Domingos de 20 a 22 

A partir del lunes 3 de Septiembre, Radio 3 inaugura la nueva parrilla de programación con algunos cambios sustanciales.

La desaparición de varios programas emblemáticos de la emisora (Diario Pop, Bulevar, Trébede, La Salamandra, Tren 3,...) ha motivado algunos de los ajustes más significativos dentro de la parrilla, propiciando además la incorporación de nuevos espacios, como es el caso de  Tresfusión  (Santiago Alcanda), El Guirigay (Paco Clavel),  Islas de Robinson (Luis dB), Pachamama (Consol Sainz) o 3 en la Carretera (Isabel Ruiz Lara).

Otros programas cambian de horario o incluso de formato, como es el caso de En un Mundo Feliz, presentado por Tato Puerto y Marta Gómez o Disco Grande (Julio Ruiz), que pasan a ser diarios.

Taken by Tress: el nuevo proyecto de Victoria (ex The Concretes)

you may recognise victoria's utterly unique voice as that which formerly graced the concretes. victoria was singer and songwriter for the concretes for 11 years up until deciding to leave the band in july 2006. then again you may recognise victoria's voice from one of the biggest and most popular singles of last year - namely, peter bjorn and john's infectious 'young folks' single. now, after much deliberation and thought, victoria has decided to follow her instincts and record a debut album of her own. aided and abetted by fellow peter, bjorn and john co-horts bjorn yttling on various instruments and string arrangements and john eriksson on all 'very personal' percussion instruments, marimba and vibraphone. the album also features guitar by andreas soderstrom, plus verity susman from electrelane, who provided piano arrangements as well as backing vocals. victoria and bjorn produced the album together. cd only on rough trade

Colin Blunstone - One Year

Discmedi reedita esto en España; Una joya.

  One Year es el álbum con el que Colin Blunstone regresó a la arena discográfica tras el breve periodo de retiro que siguió a la disolución de The Zombies, una de las bandas más importantes en toda la historia del pop británico y el grupo con el que conoció el éxito a través de obras tan trascendentales como Odessey and Oracle. Para su rentrée, Blunstone contó con la colaboración de sus antiguos compañeros en las filas de los no-muertos, Rod Argen y Chris White. Con su ayuda, el que fuera vocalista de los Zombies ideó una magna obra en la que abordaba el pop desde la creatividad y la voluntad de superar el fantasma de su anterior banda. Ampulosas orquestaciones, melodías de adherencia inquebrantable y la característica voz de Blunstone constituyen las principales señas de identidad de un disco que también sirvió para mostrar el talento del inglés como compositor, después de que apenas tuviera ocasión de mostrar esta porción de su talento durante los años que pasó enrolado en Zombies.  

Airspace Vol 1 y Vol 2: Nostalgia

He podido conseguir (¡por fin!) los dos volúmenes de “Airspace”, dos recopilatorios editados sólo en vinilo y que recoge multitud de temas inéditos de la escena indie UK a finales de los 80-principios de los 90. Desde maravillas de St Christopher (el tema que sacó Stamp en flexi) o Field Mice hasta un ¡slightydelic mix! del “Shame on You” de The Darling Buds. Nostalgia: (del griego clásico νόστος "regreso" y ἄλγος "dolor") describe un anhelo del pasado, a menudo idealizado y poco realista... Los estudios muestran que muchas personas creen que en años o décadas pasadas las personas estaban mejor de lo que están ahora, incluso cuando esto no es siempre el caso. Esta creencia es muy típica de la nostalgia. Los artículos en la Cultura Pop a menudo pueden provocar un sentimiento fuerte de la nostalgia.

Watoo Watoo - "La Fuite"

Watoo Watoo consist primarily of Pascale & Michaël, who now live in Bordeaux after spending 30 years in Paris and it's suburbs. Michaël usually records new songs on his computer, e-mails friends to help with the guitars & the piano, and then asks Pascale to add her lovely voice. But Pascale is always busy doing something else, so Michaël often needs to ask her some time in advance.

Over 10 years, Watoo Watoo have released 2 albums & 2 E.P.s on various labels throughout the world & have made appearances on an impressive number of compilations.

The music was strictly indiepop in Watoo Watoo's early years, but now other influences have surfaced. "Felt is still an obsession but Serge Gainsbourg also is one. I also discovered a lot of new music in the last few years thanks to the internet, so bossa beats or jazz chords sometimes subconsciously appear when I write a new song", says Michaël.

Watoo Watoo have recently completed recordings on a new CD album, that has been released by Letterbox Records in June 2007. Among the new songs are a melancholic waltz, a pop song with 60s orchestral arrangements, an electronic tune, a bossa and even a funk number resembling a 70s movie soundtrack. Pascale's soft voice and the apparent smoothness of the melodies pull everything together, stamping the Watoo Watoo brand on the entire production.
